The VESA adapter makes a mount compatible with a TV even though the VESA dimensions of its holes do not match. The adapter plate enlarges VESA 50x50 75x75 & 100x100 to 200x100 and 200x200 - if the plate is rotated 90 degrees, 100x200 is also possible.
